Heirloom Tomato Festival at The Tavern at Lark Creek
For the next few weeks, The Tavern at Lark Creek will be celebrating their annual Heirloom Tomato Festival. If you're a fan of these meaty, flavorful jewels, now's the time to join in the fun. They will source varieties like Brandywine, Green Zebra, Yellow Marvel and Purple Cherokee.
Chef Aaron Wright does his shopping at the local farmers' markets so the produce is hyper fresh. We loved the garlicky Chilled Tomato Gazpacho with cucumber, gypsy peppers and basil sprouts. The micro basil was such a piquant contrast to the dish. The pretty Sweet Cherry Tomato Flatbread with shaved summer squash, smoked gouda, balsamic onions and oil cured olives was also another favorite.
For those who want substantial protein, the Alaskan Halibut with roasted white corn, tomato relish, beluga lentils, and broccoli rabe was excellent - not overcooked at all. The Grilled Marinated Flank Steak with smashed potatoes, sweet onion and beefsteak tomato salad is ideal for carnivores.
Be sure to save some room for dessert. Our friend Carolyn had raved about their famous Butterscotch Pudding and we now know why she loves it so. The creamy, light-as-air texture hides the sweet richness, so you'll be digging into the parfait glass again and again...until it's alllll gone.
