Fashion's Night Out Events in SF

San Francisco will celebrate Fashion Week in style with a myriad of local Fashion's Night Out events. On Thursday, September 6, many boutiques and department stores are offering parties, gifts with purchase, exclusive discounts, etc., to entice your sartorial sensibility.

Neiman Marcus and 7x7 Magazine will present works created by Academy of Art designers alongside  fall 2012 trends on live models. Guests can get glammed up by their favorite beauty line before a fun red carpet photo opp. Cinta Salon will also demo fall hairstyles.

I'm a huge fan of Rifle Paper Co. and the Florida-based design studio launched two items for Chronicle Books. Needless to say, I'm giddy with excitement.

Rifle encouraged me to take up my childhood hobby by introducing their Botanicals Labels & Stickers ($10.95) portfolio. Like many little girls, I was a sticker fanatic, and now I can use these gorgeous designs for everything.

Flo Braker's Chocolate Buttermilk Cake

I recently made my husband an amazing Chocolate Buttermilk Cake for his birthday. The recipe is from Flo Braker, one of my favorite baking authorities. I first discovered it in The San Francisco Chronicle Cookbook Volume II many years ago, but it is sadly out of print. You can still find copies of it on Amazon.

As one of my standby recipes, many friends have asked me to make this showstopper for them. It's such a festive layer cake for any occasion - I recommend using the best chocolate you can find. I got permission from Chronicle Books to feature the recipe, so it's all retyped below. Please let me know your thoughts if you decide to make it!
